The launch of Hope4Creation’s Newsletter
On Monday, November 3rd, Hope4Creation released its very first newsletter, featuring uplifting stories about climate and faith. Click here to subscribe to the newsletter. It also included a message from Hope4Creation’s founder, Charlotte Bannister-Parker, which reads as follows:
Dear Friends,
Last week, a friend and I took a walk around St. Margaret's of Antioch, a 12th-century church in Binsey, Oxford. We spent time at the healing spring, also called by C.S. Lewis the "treacle well", which was brought forth by the prayers of St Frideswide, the patron Saint of Oxford. We rested in nature, taking in the plants — 'blue' Canterbury bells and flowering St John's Wort — listened to birdsong, and soaked in the autumn light reflecting off the sacred church stone.
This moment reminded me of the words of Kathy Wills, Professor of Biodiversity at Oxford University, in her recently published book "Good Nature". Wills found that going for a walk in a park or garden "fostered a profound sense of well-being" and revealed that "anyone can get health benefits from just being immersed in nature - as long as they do it for at least twenty minutes." It's a great read and it celebrates why protecting gardens, parks and wilderness not only to helps the natural world but also humanity too.
In November, a National Emergency Briefing for 850 politicians and leading voices from business, culture, faith, and the media will take place in London. At this event, leading experts in fields including national security, energy, food security, health, extreme weather, climate, and economics will discuss our government's responses to the climate and nature crisis and the solutions we hold in our hands. Faith leaders will also be present to encourage the shift from discussion to action.
As COP30 approaches, running from November 6 to 21 in Belém, in the Brazilian Amazon, the Anglican Communion is launching its Lungs of the Earth campaign - do check it out. Faith leaders will be supporting Indigenous Peoples, advocating for the protection of their rights in national and global climate plans.
We hope to have good news to share with you next month.
With kind regards from,
Charlotte and all the H4C Team
